Hi, I like this lighter wood cabinet color that gives more contrast to dark flooring.

I too prefer lighter cabinets with dark floors, but there are many kitchens on houzz that combine both dark floors and dark cabinets. Usually they bring the contrast and lightness in with a white or very light countertop and backsplash and white or light colored walls. This can be a striking combination, though it still "reads" dark.

Amyclubb, did you do it? I am in the exact same dilemma right now an an interested I you went ahead and are happy with it - or regret it?

Use a lighter version of your floor stain or painted cabinets- they don't have to be white! Is is a very big expensive mistake to use dark stain on both cabinets & floors. You could use lighter cabinets for the main cabinets & reserve your darker stain for the island. I agree with Feeny on countertops. Pay close attention to lighting.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I am moving forward with a dark stain and a "relatively" dark floor (however, it is lighter than the cabinets) - I selected a white quartz countertop and am putting frosted glass in the upper level of cabinets (they go to the 9' ceiling) to break up the darkness. My backsplash is also very light (gray) and I installed under-cabinet lighting. There is a lot of light from 3 very large corner windows. I think the dark is going to look stunning. The cabinet bases were put in last week. Will probably be some time before they put all the fronts on. And I think the floor is going in this week. Here's a couple pictures of the layout. I will post some pictures when it's done.

I like your choice as long as your colors don't look like you tried to match the colors and they are just a bit off. if they are obviously different then you can get away with it. or if the stain is identical it works too but that is usually hard to find

There are some nice medium brown or "caramel" colors for cabinets. I'd try to keep the wood tones in the same family--warm colors or cool colors. An espresso brown flooring would look nice with a medium brown that has no golden or orange undertones. I saw this photo on pinterest and would describe this shade as a cooler brown with a rose undertone. This style of cabinet is what we've been using. It works with a vintage look OR modern kitchen, depending on the hardware that you choose. These frames are likely 3".

Well, it's been almost 3 years since we moved in. Here are some pics. I am extremely happy with the floors and the counters. I think the darker cabinets look great in the space, but there are times when I wish we had gone with something lighter. When the sun shines on them (which isn't that often), they appear REALLY dirty. Makes me think of all the dirt that's there all the time that I just don't see. And I'm an OCD cleaner, but the dark shows dust and spots just like white cabinets would.

After living with the space for 3 years, I have to say that the configuration of cabinets and drawers is spot on! I love the space - it is so functional - everything is right where it should be. I am very fortunate to have such a large space! :)

We have dark floors as well and they definitely show every little thing. Ours have a high gloss to them so that is even worse.
