Susan, I know a lady that grows them sucessfully here in my zone, but I'm quite a bit farther south than you. Here's a link to a site that has good info on growing them. If you can plant them close to a rock wall, or maybe the foundation of your home where the drainage is good and they get plenty of sun, you might be sucessful with them.

Mine haven't emerged yet, but if they do it will be their 3rd or 4th year in the ground (with little or no protection).

Thanks Jan and Nelson. I've decided to plant them in my yard. I bought an obelisk for one of them and will let the other clamber over a tall tea olive plant.

The next day after posting my above response I noticed the gloriosas poking through the ground. I don't think you'll have any problem with them as long as they are mulched in winter. Good luck and see ya soon!

mine were here when we bought our house 19 years ago. they always pop back up and bloom in may. mulch will help. i live in southeast alabama (z8) and they do well. i think a good mulch up around your part of the state will be just the ticket. they are beautiful!
