Oleanders respond wonderfully to being pruned all the way to the ground (or nearly so) so that new growth can be fully and shrubby. Oleanders should be perfectly evergreen in your location, barring severe winter kill or other problems. How long have yours been planted?

By the way, you'll be amazed at how much your oleander will grow once you cut it back.

I have had three for 4 years and 1 for one year. they did this last year too.

Both of my oleanders lost their leaves this winter (they are about 3 years old) but healthy new leaves came back this month so who knows. I asked the owner of Banana Docks Cafe here in Mobile, the whole restaurant is surrounded by oleander, and he said his never die down during winter. I think I may not have watered them enough or something. His are white and mine are pink, doubt that has anything to do with it though.

mine get winter burn - i haven't gotten any blooms yet - don't know why - could it be b/c i have cut mine back every year?

Generally for me Oleander doesn't bloom until the middle of the summer.
