is it in bloom now or is your photo from earlier in the year?
does it have fragrance?
it could be r. periclymenoides or r. canescens or less likely r. viscosum or r. arborescens.
compare the features to the ones at the link below. the menu at the page bottom for identifying by color will lead you through the defining characteristics.

The plants are not currently in bloom. I don't remember if they had fragrance.

I was thinking it is r. canescens. I gave a small plant to someone in a trade, so wanted a positive id.

I read that you could have azaleas blooming almost all season, if you have a mixture of this native plants.

I think the plum leave azalea blooms in the late summer, so that would be a nice one to have.

Try to remember to smell that next year. It looks like one at my Mom's house which smells INCREDIBLE! It only blooms for about 10 days, though. Your post reminds me that I probably missed sniffing it this year.
