As I think about it, peat burns in the bogs of Ireland on occasion, though I have not researched under what circumstances. But it is a fuel source after all.

A little bit in a pot goes a long way. Some of the hanging baskets I've purchased are so LIGHT WEIGHT when they dry out, those are the ones I can imagine subject to self combustion. The news article suggests that folks change the mix to a lot more potting soil. And use terra cotta pots too.
