I'm wondering if it could be the bunny poo. Reason I question it is that we have a lot of rabbits around here this year & they have been in my flower beds. One bed of petunias have been planted for over 2 months & the plants are full & green but for some reason, I have had several to slowly die after they have grown to fill the bed. I have never had this to happen before to healthy looking plants. The rabbits are the only reason I can think of that may be the cause. Betty

Well, the tips do curl but it doesn't seem to be something that has spread, like in the picture. It's more of a random sprinkle of tips that have withered. I'm going to read more and then go out and look at the tree and see. Thank you both for your answers. Nancy

My first thought was fireblight - I have a number of apples in my orchard that get more FB damage than the pears - the old heirloom Esopus Spitzenburg, in particular, is a FB magnet.
However, Elberta is a peach, not an apple - are you sure which you've got? Or maybe, if you purchased it at one of the big box stores, then it's probably mislabeled as to true variety(and maybe even species).
I have a friend who purchased a 'Santa Rosa' plum at one of the big box stores a number of years ago, and it turned out to be a Fuyu-type Asian persimmon.

Lucky P, you're absolutely right! When we bought the apple tree, we bought 2 peach trees at the same time. I wanted the peach trees because my daddy's name is Elbert. We've since cut down the peach trees (sorry Daddy!) and with age creeping up on me, I remembered the wrong name. ~sigh.~ I even told daddy that it was an Elberta... So it probably IS fire blight. Rats. Thanks for catching my mistake and for the advice...
