Don't have it, but its got good credentials. It was hybridized by Ping Lim & Bailey's roses are good roses. I have The Finest, which was introduces last year from this series & it has done very well.

Be a little careful and make sure you get the correct "Survivor"....there's another one, Rugosa cross and bright red, that used to be marketed under the name Survivor from the Canadian nurseries.

Thanks for the warning Professor. I have the code name "Balsur" so I'll make sure and check it against the label when I find one...Where did you buy your rose "the Finest" dollsandroses? Was it mail order or otherwise? I'm trying to figure out who the wholesaler is for Bailey's roses.....What a tease the ARS is for putting this rose on the cover before it's available retail. It's not even listed with HMF yet.....Maryl

Maryl, I got it directly from Baileys. We had a nursery which unfortunately we closed this year. We carried a nice selection of roses from Bailey's including their Easy Elegance Series & the Explorer's. I don't know why more nurseries don't order from Bailey's. We were very happy with their selection & quality.

Thanks Dollarsandroses. So goes the way of many good nurseries here too. I've included a link that should show Survivor on the cover of the ARS magazine. It's a beautiful picture from one of the best rose photographers, Rich Baer...Maryl

I spoke with Mr. Ping (the hybridizer) a few moments ago and found out that he himself is offering Survivor and many more roses through his mail order. The roses are all own root and will be 1 year old plants. They are first grown in a green house and then planted outside for a year. They will be sold bare root and are much bigger then say what Heirloom offers, usually having 3 canes. Survivor is, he said, more like a Floribunda in bloom habit. Vigorous, much like Easy Does It which he also grows (and which has done very well for me in its first year). In Oregon the size of Suvivor is 3x3. He was a very nice man and very helpful. I don't know if he has been doing retail mail order for long, but in this day of vanishing rose sources, I am happy to have another place to shop.
