Bummer!

When I got home from the delightful plant swap yesterday, I found the remains of the two native azaleas I had bought at the MG plant sale. Our puppy had bitten off the tops and pulled the roots out of the pots, which she proceeded to chew up. I grabbed fresh pots and replanted both sets of roots, one of which still had one shoot with leaves attached. Then I clipped off the little new shoots from the pieces scattered around, dipped them in rooting hormone, and potted them up. I don't have high hopes for anything surviving, but have learned that anything can happen in gardening. Hope springs eternal. Of course, I probably won't live long enough to see a bloom on any of those tiny pieces if they do happen to take root. Guess my children can enjoy them. :-)

As for the puppy: Fortunately for her, she's a cute, bright, sweet, loving and much-loved little dog, so she's still around. I know how active and inquisitive she is, so it's my own fault for leaving anything where she can get to it. All the world's a toy in her eyes.

Bummer indeed! At least maybe you have some things that will survive. And I'm glad you take such a great attitude regarding the puppy. We have adopted older dogs, and I think I have forgetten how those puppies can act!

In our old age we've begun adopting older dogs, too, and have had good luck with them. We already had two (one with three legs) and had no intention of getting any more till this 3 month old puppy appeared in our driveway and wrapped herself around the DH's legs and around his heart. The rest is history, as they say. A neighbor had found two abandoned puppies (sisters?) and was caring for them till she could find homes for them. Guess Addie decided to get out and find her own home -- and yes, she's been some trouble [these aren't the first plants she's destroyed :( ], partly because she's VERY active and inquisitive, but she was easy to house break and has been a lot of fun. She's almost a year old now and we keep hoping she'll outgrow some of the puppy stuff.

I get it! I can see it happening in our household as well, but I secretly hope it doesn't! Our big lab tries to find a cool spot behind the shrubs and digs his way to China. Or I find he's been wading in the pond.
