Locusts?

What are the bugs I hear that come back every year in the south and sound like locusts? They seem to be more active toward evening, I think. I don't see them, just hear them. We had locusts up north, but not every year - I've been in the south 3 years now, and these seem to come back regular as clockwork.

Okay, duh, I searched the forum and found I asked the same question in 2010 - you all told me katydids or locusts. Thanks anyway!

Don't you mean cicadas? ;-) They've started around here, that's for sure.

I always heard them referred to as "July flies" growing up, but technically I think they are a type of cicada. :) Definately my favorite sound of Summer!
