Can you post a picture? We might be able to tell more about it.

Someone in another forum posted some pictures that seem to fit this description and we surmised that it was hail damage. As it turned out, there HAD been a quick hail storm with some very small hail. Hail can cause bruising, as well as tearing, especially if it's small.

Oh, definitely something to thing about! We had a really big hail storm that destroyed the roofs in our whole neighborhood back at the end of March. There was certainly plenty of damage to my garden (the stones got up to golf ball sized and the larger ones were very spiky). Ended up with 2 inches on the ground. Plenty of torn plants. What I think of as "bruising" was the spots that looked hammered on the leaves at that time. However these leaves look sound other than the pale spots. And that was so long before the spots that I wouldn't think it would be connected. But you may be right. Possibly the leaves that were very young at that time may have sustained damage but it just didn't become visible for awhile? What do you think?
