I'm not sure which variety of serviceberry I have, but it's thriving. The blooms are pretty in the spring and the berries must be good because the birds eat them the minute they get ripe. Maybe when the tree gets bigger there'll be enough for me, too.

Can't say I ever saw a serviceberry in the wild - and I spent most of my first 25 years roaming the woods of east-central AL. But I have seen A.alabamensis in the D.E. Davis Arboretum in Auburn.
Autumn Brilliance is probably the most widely available serviceberry in the nursery trade today, and it's a nice plant, but I've seen some that are heavily affected by cedar-serviceberry rust(or other strains of cedar rust) - with lesions on fruit, leaves, and stems.

Though this webstite is about landscape plants of the upper midwest, its got great information about many varieties of serviceberries. I found it very useful myself. I bought an Autumn Brilliance serviceberry this week and looking forward seeing it bloom this spring.
