What about Indian Hawthorne?

Indian Hawthorn would have to be scalped fairly frequently to keep it under twelve inches. My first thought is you ought to take a look at the garden pinks. If you drive around right now, they really stand out in the border and perennial garden. The ever popular Baths Pink is a winner, and we've planted Firewitch this past spring with great success. It has a very long bloom period. I can't remember some of the other hybrids we've planted, but those two are great. I like the pinks with the icy blue foliage, but there are numerous hybrids boasting all kinds of foliage colors and flower hues. You can go hot with the deep reds all the way to white. I like the pale and the hot pink colors the best.

They've flourished in my heavy clay soil, in full blazing sun. I've planted them in an area with other xeric plants to make sure I don't water them too much.

Very, very pretty plants all year round. Don't rely on the chain garden centers for a good selection, but visit the locally owned places. Pinks should be widely available at this time of year.
