A Freeze Too Soon

Last Sunday I was preparing for this week's projected freeze. I cut down my banana trees ( all 35 trunks of basjoo) and hauled them to the street for the city to remove. I use wire to build fences around my banana stumps and roots and mulch them heavily. When I got to the yellow banana (musella lasiocarpa) I noticed it has a huge bud. I've been waiting 3 years for this sucka to bloom and now old man Winter may get him. I didn't cut the trunk but I did cover it (all 6 feet) with a heavy mulch of leaves. 27* is predicted tonight and 25* Thursday night, 28* Friday. Does anyone have experience with the blooms? Will it be "fried" before the temps go up again?
