Pineapple sage

I sowed these only a few days ago. Already up. I've found seedlings in the soil beneath my plants from last year too. I doubt the ones I left in the ground will return, and most of my cuttings were mistreated and died. So it's good this wintersowing thing works. ;)

I'm hoping to divide the sprouts later when they're bigger and stronger. I need about 30 plants to create the hedge I want to do in the backyard this year. They're gonna be beautiful when paired with Yvonne's salvia under the fall color of the turning maples.

    DUH
I've never seen seeds for it.
Could you save a couple for me for next year?
    Where ARE the seeds?

Ellen, the seeds are at the bottom of the flowers. I've never gotten seeds from mine before this past year. They usually bloom too late for the seeds to ripen, or I just never looked for them. I had lots this year, sharing them with many gardenweb users. In the fall, I tested the germination in a container outside. I sowed 4 seeds and 3 germinated. The hummingbirds were my pollinators. They spent hours defending their certain plant. It was so much fun to watch every morning and evening.

I'll have more seeds this fall now that I know what to look for and will plant them in more sun. Too much shade slows their bloom rate. My plants from this past year.

Is this the plant that has leaves that smell pineapple-y when you rub them? if so, I have one of these that I have wintered over inside for the last several years in a pot. Just this past late fall it bloomed with many pretty, fiery red flowers. Hopefully it will bloom again and I can collect some seeds.

I just love this plant so much. I usually buy mine though, just because I enjoy the fragrance; it blooms too late here for the hummers. Yours look wonderful, it's amazing to see it growing the way you planted it, nice job. You'll definitely have to take pics of it when it blooms this year, I will be looking forward to seeing them.

Yes this is the one that smell so pineapple-y I always want to go home and eat pineapples.
I didn't know they could be overwintered.
thanks Token I will look for seeds.
I'll buy it also, so I can have it sooner, it blooms late in season for me.
Last year I fumbled - planted too early and it got nipped by frost. It survived but didn't thrive.

very pretty. I lost the seeds I had of PS. Maybe next WS season I will plant some. I did not realize they get so big!

Those may work for my front bed by the street.

Karen, those were plants that were overwintered cuttings from the previous year. They were about 4" tall when I planted them out.
