Pickles are organic and can go into the compost but.........
you are supposed to hide a pickle in the Christmas tree

Rosemary, I would drain off the brine first. Salt and vinegar brine will probably kill the good bacteria in the compost pile. That is what a salt and vinegar brine does, it pickles and prevents bacteri from growing.

This is my first visit to this forum. It looks interesting.

Anyway, my two cents here... I agree with TSmith2579 about draining off the brine. Depending on the size of your compost pile a gallon of brine may not cause too much trouble but it can be put to good use killing grass and weeds in your garden paths. I use my salt water after making ice cream this way too.
