Thanks, Wintersowing

My dad who was has been an ardent gardener for many years, has altzheimers and cannot do his own gardening anymore.

I had mentioned a month ago to him that we were going to plant seeds together. He remembered it two weeks later, and continued to remember it after that. This is the same man who had all his family over for Thanksgiving and didn't remember any of it the next day.

Today I brought all my wintersowing stuff over to the facility where he lives and we wintersowed some things together in his room. I got him involved in each step. Later, as I left, he gave me the biggest smile and said "Come back soon!"

So, thanks, wintersowing, for giving me a way to bring some happiness at least for one day, to a very dear man.

It's nice that you have something that you can do with your dad inspite of such a horrific illness. Keep strong and enjoy.

Altzheimers is a terrible disease and is so hard for the family. I am so glad that you will always have that memory. My mom lost her dad to this disease. On the days that he had clarity and would tell her a story, she would write it down in a spiral notebook. Every once in a while when she thinks of him she will open that notebook and read one of the stories. I'm glad you guys can still garden together.

That's just wonderful! It made my heart sing. My mom had Alzheimers, but she was the one who instilled the love of gardening in me when I was just a little girl! Thanks for sharing

    That's beautiful, Lois.
It brought tears to my eyes too.
    I have a friend - whom I don't think has Alzheimer's - but has severe memory problems.
One day I taught her some yoga. Every time she sees me she asks about doing yoga, even tho sometimes she can't remember what she did the day before.

So the wintersowing you did with your dad must have made a big impression on him.

    Kudos to you. And him.
wishing you and him the best.
