Need more info. What kind of onions? And how far along are they?

I got them already started from a Nursery at the end of last summer, I think. Just said Yellow Onions on the tag. I've only grown green onions before so not sure how these should be reacting.

I know, not a lot of info. I don't even really remember when I planted them.

Onions that are exposed to cold weather when they are larger in diameter than 3/8" will split and/or bolt later in the season. Unless these are shallots or potato onions (which is possible) they are unlikely to bulb up like you would like.

If they do bolt, you can save the seed and direct sow it in October and it should grow into proper onions next season.

Bunching onions will also divide, but I doubt they would be sold labeled as 'yellow onions'.

Fortunately, even if they don't make big bulbs, or if they start to flower, you can still harvest and eat them - onions are edible at any point in their development.

You hit it on the nose. They are bolting. I planted them out way too early.

Well, guess they will be very big green onions :)
