Valencia is a spanish type onion. Seeds of Italy list 2 varieties , one early (temprana) and one late (tardia). Cebolla translate to onion. They are long day, altho Spanish type onions are less demanding of daylenght than many others. Interesting that seedracks in Ohio would have short day onions. They rarely carry them here in Georgia. Ferry Morse only offers one short day onion, Yellow Granex, hybrid. Burpee offers Yellow Granex hybrid, Red Creole, Texas Supersweet.

I agree, ham. Super annoying... I planted a bunch of onions last year from HD not knowing they were the wrong type, and none of them got bigger than a golf ball. I waited this year, and bought sets from Dixondale farms. Judging by their website and office call, they're kind of a mom and pop place. But all they sell is onions, and they really know their stuff. They even worked with me on finding the right date to ship them. I bought a Spanish type onion for up here in the north. Really excited to plant them!

I run into this as well, why would they even stock a long day onion in alabama? And the seed packets don't even say what day length they are. ALL my local stores that carry ferry-morse only stock ONE onion seed and its a long-day but I called ferry-morse and they claim it's "widely-adapted", yeah right. And on top of it, most stores and nurseries don't get their seeds in until mid January when it's already too late to start onions from seed.
