I am in the Northern part of zone 5 and grew the following varieties this year.
Bogatyr, Broadleaf Czech, Georgian Fire, German Extra Hardy, Samarkand-Persian Star, Siberian. They all came through the winter just fine. If it comes from Siberia, I am sure it would do fine by you.

You might also want to get some garlic that is locally grown at a farmers market in the fall. I figure they probably know what works. I did that this past year and it looks good right now, but I don't know the real name of it. I just call it Tony's garlic because that was the name of the guy I bought it from. I wonder how many names got started this way.

Zone 3 is a little too cold for most garlic, including Asiatic and Turban types. It may be too cold for rocamboles, too. However, porcelains are said to grow well in zone 3 if well mulched prior to winter. "German Extra Hardy", a large, vigourous, disease-resistant, very cold tolerant porcelain should grow well for you.

Thanks for the info. I've done some research and found quite a few people around here grow garlic! High Mowing Seeds is located within 10 or 15 miles of where this will be growing. They have 4 varieties and I ordered some of each.

Several other local farms have large plots of various kinds that they are willing to share as well. A lot of people bought from SSE and said it took a couple of years to acclimate but then did fine.
