Might work but I suspect they will bolt, which would affect bulb size and keeping quality.

I replant sprouting Long Red of Tropea in fall and spring because I know they will promtply bolt and produce seeds, which is great because they're open pollinated and the fresh seeds are strong sprouters. Candy is hybrid, so no telling what you'd get.

Some people grow Japanese onions from seed in the fall in cold climates. They form a little bunch of onions in the spring.
