You will have to start with seed or transplants to get onions.
I tried once with store bulbs and got seed stalks only. Cut off the stalks. Just got another stalk.
Not the best site for information. You might do better with another search. But, it does suggest that they are a cool weather varity.

Dixondale farms lists them as a long day onion.

There are several varieties but they are rarely listed by daylength.

I don't mind if they just go to seed this year, I'll plant the seeds and eat the onions next year. It's just a fun little project! I've got the gardening bug, a lot of my seeds have started to sprout and I'm already planning next year! LOL
