Apple tree sprouties :)

I just wanted to show you all the start of our future orchard!

The seeds were from an apple tree way out in the woods near the edge of an abandoned farm. I'm not worried about how true the babies will be to the parent tree - we'll fence off a couple acres from the main part of our "goatland" and plant out everyone. I've got 4 containers of them sprouting this year and some of them are bound to be good enough for us. We aren't that picky and that parent tree was quite a tree - little fruits but tough old tree growing in even tougher growing conditions. I like that kind of plant.

This was so easy that I'd really like to winter sow other types of fruit next year. Do any of you WSers happen to have an old fashioned peach tree, pear tree, or other type we should consider? I'd like to start planning an end of season trade with someone who's willing to save fruit pits or seeds. We'll have lots of flower and a good supply of veg seed to trade for fruit. I'd really like to find someone who's got the "tree that grandpa planted" somewhere.

I guess that might need to be northern zone 6 or a zone 5 grandpa. :)
