Hi,

So, I ordered Yellow Granex Sweet Onions from http://www.kitchengardenseeds.com/.

On the site it says "A few tips for northern gardeners: plant Yellow Granex early (by mid-April) and provide consistent moisture."

So I did that, but in reading on this forum and learning more I'm relatively sure Yellow Granex isn't going to start bulbing here in Northern Oregon until mid-Sept. when we get down to 12 hours of daylight.

I'm wondering if

a) there's something I'm missing in regard to the Yellow Granex that makes them suitable to the north--or is this just a typo on the Web site

b) if I can really keep them in the ground until late October/November or whenever the bulbs have finished forming even though we'll have a few frosts by then, and

c) whether it's possible to use a blanket or other cover to "trick" them into bulbing earlier

Or option d) which is just to eat a lot of scallions and try some long day onions next year.
