I'm curious as to what the purpose would be in planting them, since they're already the mature part of the harvest. Why would you want them to flower?

They should be hardy in your zone with mulching. Also, those leeks are not perennial but biennial. They will bloom in their second year. If they fail to produce bulbs off the main root, that's the end for that plant.

After I eat grocery store leeks I plant them in my flower beds. That year I get a pretty white ball shaped flower. I guess if I wanted I could save the seed but I just go for the flowers and kindda a bonus like the toy in the cereal box. They even go into cut flowers.

After they flower I just pull the plant and stick it in the compost as I don't save the store leek seeds (I do want to save my prizetaker leek seeds this year).

Okay - no I'm REALLY confused - lol!!! What part of the plant are you planting "after you eat them"?

One would have would assume he is eating the greens... Flowers won't grow from greens!! LOL.. (:

I think what tracy means is that she eats the white part and replants the roots. I have done that and got a flower also. I thought maybe I would get a whole new leak from it but it was scrawny.
