Hi All,

Finally I have some overwintered onions that I actually know the variety of to plant and save for seed!! However, I have had the habit of planting overwintered onions for the pollinators to enjoy, and also missing a few bunching onions and letting them go to seed the next year. Plus I find the onion plants keep aphids away from the apple trees.

So now I want to take out the massive plants that have resulted from the years of staying on one place, if they are bunching onions. If they are bulb onions it seems like it would be ok to let them cross as they definately exhibit good natural seed production traits.

Is it possible to tell if these massive, multibranched plants are bunching onions or bulbing types ? There is at least 4 or 5 stems coming out at the base of each plant, if that indicates anything.
