I've seen wild onions when I lived in Tennessee, Ohio and Virginia. All I ever heard them called was wild onion. not much help, huh? Ramps have broader leaves IIRC. I have never heard that wild onions are poisonous, but I'm sure me saying that won't make you feel comfortable about eating them. I think it is what cows get into at times and makes the milk taste oniony......back when people drank raw milk.

According to Wikipedia they may be allium canadense and the more garlicy plant with a similiar look is allium vineale. They are edible but they say to be careful in case you have plants that look similiar. I have tasted the onion many times but never used it in salads or cooking.
