By the way, we in North Texas got almost 3" of desperately needed rain so the lakes have risen a few inches (many of the lakes lost 12-15' of water). They're talking about water restrictions of only watering twice a month or using a drip system, so am thinking of having one installed.

I can sympathize with you! We've had several frosts and snow and I cut buds showing color today too! Silly things haven't gotten the memo yet that it's WINTER!

Wow, seil, I'm amazed you're getting buds since you're so far north. I think the coldest I've ever been in my life was living in Saginaw when it got to -5 Degrees, and that was after growing up in Montana with temps well below that! I get the shivers just thinking about it; we're such wimps down here now!

It's the damp from the lakes that makes it seem even colder than it is. Just like it does in the summer with the humidity making things seem hotter. Saginaw is really tough too because you get those winds that blow straight in from the bay. Always said the worst places in Michigan to live are in the bay area and the thumb because of those winds.

oh well, if we are going with the boasty bud thing, Moonlight also has buds and flowers - although not much else has apart from (oddly) the osteospermums and salvias which have somehow failed to realise we are definately beyond autumn and setting into winter. They are lolling over my (small) box topiary balls and need trimming but, well, ya know - flowers!
Otoh, I love this time of year when little plantings become visible once more (hey, I knew there was a geum in there) and all things seem possible for next year.
