elephant garlic

Hi, I'm really excited about harvesting my elephant garlic, but am unsure of when to do it. I read that you wait until they are 90% brown in summer, but on this chat site the pictures look like my garlic looks right now with just a little bit of brown.

Does anyone know? Maybe elephant garlic is different from other garlics. I definately have elephant garlic.

I'm a bit baffled by your question as most everybody in the country has already dug out all their bulbs and are getting ready to plant again. Did you plant yours this spring by chance...that would explain some of it.

the main rule with garlic is when there are 4 green leaves left on the plant it's time to pull'em.

Vanessa lives in OZ so my guess is that it is backwards for her, but the advice is the same, isn't it?

Harvest when 40-50 percent of the leaves are brown or yellow. 90% would be too late .
