I am trying to determine if my Allium sphaerocephalon is sending up shoots (now, in Sept-Oct), or if my bed was infiltrated by wild onions. I can't really tell, but the Fine Gardening page on alliums says to remove offsets. Does this mean tiny bulbs only, or that the plant would send up shoots in fall? These shoots smell onion-like, as I imagine both the ornamental allium and wild onion would, but these shoots are just too similar to the allium leaves I recall from spring for me to dig them up without further research.
