I did a Google search and found several sites that offer info on starting from seed. Look for mainlyamaryllidgarden's site. Looks like they grow on top of the soil and take 6-8 weeks to sprout.

There are several sites out there for this genus.

Thanks, I had browsed a few websites on them. Wanted to "double check" just in case any home gardeners had other experiences with them and not just the professionals if you know what I mean...

Well, if you searched you saw that there are threads on the bulb forum that include our on Bluebonsai (Dan) that desk with this topic. Sounds like at the time he hadn't had any experience with this either. Pacific Bulb Society (on of the ultimate authorities) also had some info on the web.

Since this is the Hippeastrum forum, you wouldn't expect to find it here. I found it on the bulb forum.

I was trying to help you find something to help successfully germinate your single seed. Ever thought about contacting someone who sells either the plants or seeds online to ask them for advice? I search for information at work all day long. Yup... You need to get a little creative in where you look!
