Yes sometimes that does happen. I had some Inchelium get stressed on me this year and the result of this is they will grow a center stalk with bulbils. Also had some Silver Rose that grew a seed capsule. Sorry you got small stuff...that's always disapointing.

bloosquall - Thanks a lot for the info. I have been growing garlic for years, but always just save and replant my own stock - thus I don't know what variety is what! I planted the silver white today, and separated the soft and hard necks to see if there is any difference come harvest time.

I do not replant any stock with less than desirable characteristics,nor do I sell them as planting grade.Bolting may be that particular bulb variation or a genetic variation so why continue it as that is a primary reason for growing silverskins.Leave the scape on till harvest and then isolate and eat them.Do not replant them.

Makes sense garlic man. I contacted a garlic grower I know about the silver white and he told me the same thing. I have been replanting my stock at home for years, but at work, we purchase planting stock, as we sell all our garlic at the market. The silver white will be sold at market for eating, as will our 7 other varieties and all the scapes they produce.
