shallots

Because of the drought, many of my shallots went dormant and were not dug. Now, they're completely leafed out from multiple divisions--about a foot tall. Is it worth my while to divide and plant them, or will they just immediately go to seed next year?

Shallots rarely go to seed, but if they do you would be wise to save the seed and plant it. You might get some exciting results. I would probably err on the side of caution and dig, divide and replant half of them, and leave the other half in the ground. Either way you're guaranteed some continuation of your line.
