I wouldn't bet on a very high survival rate. One key need to growing garlic and onions is well-drained soil. I doubt if prolonged saturation is going to do anything but drown the plants. So, doesn't sound good for that field. A pity as I know how much work goes into that size field.

Thanks for your input. I had the same gut feeling. I curse my sloping property throughout the growing season, dreaming of flat ground to cultivate. Now I look at my well drained beds and am happy.

Wouldn't it depend on how long they sit in water? We are flodding here, and it's been raimimg most of the last month. I have an 8 inch tall raised bed sitting on clay, and started my garlic around thanksgiving. During the 12-18 hour periods of rainfail, the bulbs are under some water, but when the rain stops the water drains away. All of the palnts seemed to take longer than usual to emerge (a;though they are mostly new varieties), one variety has not emerged yet, perhaps becuase they have rotted. But the other twelve or so varieties remain green in spite of the wetness.
