please help id plant/weed?

Hi All,

Does anyone know what these are? I think the first photo may be a weed but I'm not sure and before I plant out my WS seedlings I'd like to make sure. Thanks so much for your help!

The middle one looks like Polemonium (Jacob's Ladder). Funny because I just posted an ID help pic of it on the Cottage Garden forum! It is growing everywhere in my garden (I inherited the plant when I bought the property) and is getting rather aggressive. Mine isn't even the variegated form, though. Pretty blue flowers. Good luck with the others!

The first and third are weeds, the middle one is what lisa33 said, a polemonium.

    That polemonium is awfully pretty!

That first one throws me every single year! Every spring I see it and don't want to pull it because I think its "something". Does anyone know what weed it is?

The third one looks like purslane, no?

Thanks so much everyone! I forgot all about the Polemonium and was hoping the 3rd was a volunteer snapdragon :(
Can't wait to plant out today (and rip out those weeds!). Thanks again WS'ers and have a great day!

    Mary,

The first one is NOT a weed. It is a type of Rudbeckia - Black Eyed Susan.

The second is a Variegated Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium) as others have said. Very nice. I have them as well. There are several types - your's looks very healthy! There's been problem with some of these (bought) plants declining in the gardens after they are bought, but as I said, your's is looking good. :O)

    Last one is a weed.

But the first one is NOT!! I tried to sign on last night and couldn't. Hope I caught you in time...

The first one is Erigeron, possibly E. annuus, eastern daisy fleabane. The last one is Veronica serpyllifolia, thymeleaf speedwell.

Oh no!!! Too late!! I was so gung ho to start working in the garden yesterday that I missed your post Tiffy! I yanked out at least 5 or 6 Rudbeckia!!! BUMMER...well at least now I have photos and will not repeat this mistake next year :(

I will have to go begging to a friend who has some huge healthy plants she may want to divide....

Many thanks to all who responded!
