What are you Spring sowing?

It has been chilly here and the rest of the month looks like it is supposed to be 40-50s at night, 50-70 during the day. So, hopefully, what needs cold stratification will get enough cold. Please keep in mind this is my first year, so don't use what I am doing as a guideline for sowing and by all means if I am sowing something that I would be better off waiting on, let me know.

Lamb's Ear (Stachys byzantina)- (cold strat)

Portulaca- Moss Rose

Columbine (Cold strat)

Zinnia

Nicandra (shoo fly)

Scabiosa Pincushion flower

Wild Aster

Gomphrena QIS Mis (Walmart Burpee Select seed)

Safflower Bursts of Gold (Walmart Burpee Select)

Celosia

Scarlet Runner Bean

Money Plant (Honesty)

I think I will go ahead and sow the Columbine, Lamb's Ear and Portulaca tonight. Portulaca package says sow about one week before last frost. Well, technically, I think that was two days ago and it looks like it will stay pretty cold. Blah. Bring on the "Spring".

Zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos (can't ever have enough!), and a bunch of other annuals to fill in where the perennials won't bloom.l

I have spring sown sprouts of these three:

    Snap Dragons
    Morning Glory Cameo Elegance
    Morning Glory Heavenly Blue

    I recently sowed these:

    Coleus Rainbow
    Ranunculus (bulbs)
    Sweet William
    Allysum Carpet of Snow
Zinnia Lilliput (2nd try, 1st batch didn't make it)
Bachelor Buttons (2nd batch, 1st batch planted out, made it through freeze)
    Wild Bergamot
    Evening Primrose
Kohlrabi Purple Vienna (replacements for those lost)

Since the weather was so warm here for a few weeks, I switched to "spring sowing" several weeks ago (at least in my own mind, I did, lol :)
I do my peppers, tomatoes, spring vegetables that I do not direct sow which are most Asian this year
    Zinnia
    Cosmos
    Tithonia
    morning glory
    moonflower
    orange thyme
    balsam impatiens
    basils
    sunflowers
    marigolds

Oh, boy. I didn't write any of that down yet this year. Things are still in their original containers, and I have not kept up on taking notes. But there are OODLES of things! I actually spring sow all the annuals!

This is my first year too, but just this past weekend I sowed :

    African daisy
    Basil
    Cosmos
    Marigolds
    Peppers

It was difficult for me to wait until April to sow them, but now they are predicting snow for us for tomorrow night, and I am hoping I didn't jump the gun on these.

I did some Salvia last weekend that was a late seed arrival. I may do some more bachelor buttons real quick since my dog knocked over a couple of containers the other day. I have some seeds coming from T&M but I think from that bunch I'll only do the sweet peas. I still need to check out what I lost during the cold snap. It rained all day here yesterday so tonite I'll do that.

I really, really, really want some Mimosa Monkey flower seeds. They were sold out from T&M. Last night I got caught up on Gardeners Diary & one lady had them in a container. I just love their color & spottiness! I must find those seeds! As soon as I'm done here I'm off to search for them.

    I'm sowing
    Heavenly Blue morning glory
    Scarlet O'Hara morning glory
    Moonflower
coreopsis, because I forgot to WS it (darn!)
    maybe zinnias
    maybe cosmos

We're going to get a blizzard tonight...Looks like I'll finally get a day to hibernate. I have so much preparation to do in the beds, and I don't even know where I can put everything! Starting from scratch. I'm doing a ton of morning glories to get some green on while everything gets established...

    last night I did

    4 different kinds of zinnias
    marigolds
    portulaca

    Apr 6 to present:
    Salvia - Red cocchinea
    4 O'clocks - a lot
    castor bean
    gaillarda
    yarrow- achillea
    vinca
    Cal.poppy
    Cypress vine and cardinal vine

Last night it rained and this am still raining hard- so I went out this am and covered everything. It's only in the 40's here.
I'm using a different soil this year which I hope will result in better than 50% germination which is what I usually get. I bought it from a retail gardener I often frequent. He sold me (quite inexpensively) the same seed-starter he uses in bulk. It is very light and fluffy and has 1/2 the amount of fertilizer.

Remember that Lunaria, Money plant, is biennial. I have never been clear on what blooms when because I have them all over. I'm guessing that if you sow NOW you will have next spring blooms. I'm not sure that's the case for fall sown plants.

This would be a good time to sow gomphrena and celosia. Have fun!

....speaking of Lunaria. Mine is still not germinating. There's a patch of some spent ones down the road a piece next to the road in front of an abandoned lot. I'm tempted to walk on down there and see if the 'coins' still are holding seeds....hmmm?

I just got done sowing all I mentioned. I think sometime this weekend I will sow in 36" planters the following:
1st planter- Italian Flatleaf Parsley, Miche/Mesclun Salad Mix, "Bright Yellow" Swiss Chard
2nd planter- Purple Basil, Broadleaf Sage, German Chamomile

I have one more 36" planter. I think I may transplant my Esther's Cherry Tom into that. How big around do Cherry Tom plants usually get? I was thinking of putting 3-4 seedlings in a 36" container.

    Spring? What Spring? lol

    Linda

My words exactly, Linda. At this rate we will be going from snowstorm to summer overnight. If I hadn't started my tender stuff inside I would have one container of 10 seedlings to plant out this year.

I sowed some zinnias that came up and were destroyed by our recent cold front after the nice high 60's temps we were having. I just started another container that I will keep inside for a few days until things warm up. I also found some corn growing thanks to some squirrels who planted them in a few containers that I had taken the lids off of earlier. Now everything has lids (not caps) back on due to the cooler weather and critters. I had put out some corn cobs to feed the squirrels and they decided to plant a few instead.

    The tops are off of:

    Cupid's dart
all kinds of Zinnias (they want to be out of their pots)
    Moon Flower (looks pitiful)
    Nasturtium

Plastic is still on, but I have sprouts:

    Coleus
    Purple Wave Petunia
    Oriental Poppies

    In the ground:

Alyssum (covered with nursery pots during the frost)
