Trellis ideas?

I've got lots of beautiful vines:

cypress vine

scarlet runner bean,

firecracker vine (this one I bought)

hyacinth bean

Any ideas for inexpensive things to raise for climbing?

I have two tree-like plants that I let my vines grow on.

But this year I thought I would like to show the vines off more.

I'm going to go to the big garden store today and look around for ideas.

I'd like to come up with something "home-made" inventive and creative!

Except that I have no ideas. :)

thanks,

ellen

Do you have a extra ladder? I found a couple wobble ones at garage sales that I plan to use.

    thank you for reminding me!
Last nite while walking I saw a ladder which I wasn't sure if it was on the curb for pick-up or not - so I made a note to go back this morning and of course forgot.
Just went back and it is gone.

    But a good idea.
I like using things made for other purposes.

I just made a trellis using my son's crib (he's 6 and don't need it anymore). Used cribs are very easy to find and inexpensive. Here's a picture of them.

All you have to do is flip them on their side screw a couple of pieces of wood vertically, if you want to add any decoration to the top is up to you. Paint them whatever color you want and then get some rebar to support them and plant away!

    I love the color.
I was thinking, I didn't know cribs came in that color, until I read you had painted them. lol
    Looks great.

I have a pole that I put in a pot with some concrete. I attached some plant hangers to the side of the 4x4 at the top for heavier stuff. Then I put small nails at the top and bottom and ran fishing line from nail to nail. It works great.

I have ladders I plan to use, too. Have you tried Craigslist? This morning I scored two iron cathedral trellis, two shepherd's hooks and a very substantial 5 foot iron obelisk for $20 total! Happy gardener, here!

Wow, I love that crib trellis!

I was thinking about making my own trellis out of branches. Found this article about it online, but not sure if I'll have the time to make one this year. Right now I just have a smallish wooden trellis I found at Ace hardware...

Anyway, it was an interesting article, and the photos in the Image Gallery were inspiring:

I scored a two wire trellis' on CL for $10! They aren't cheap, that's for sure! But I do love my vines!

    Lisa,
    You really scored!
I was looking at Shepherd's crooks in the store, they cost around $17.00, depending on the size.
    Ya done well.
Craig's list is a great idea,
    also Freecycle.
and tomorrow is garage sale day.
    hope I score too :)

    Topie,
I didn't see the Image gallery - was that at the Ace site or the Mother Earth site?

    thanks,

hi ellen, the Image Gallery of the fences made from branches is on the Mother Earth site. I'm posting a direct link to the Image Gallery below...I wish there was some way to make the pictures bigger though!

Tree limbs brought down by high winds are always kept in a pile somewhere around the house and one year DH made me a few trellises with them. Here's one with a Honeysuckle on it.

Last year I 'teepeed' some together and then used other twigs from a willow to criss cross horizontally. That one was quite nice. Don't have a photo though.
