They look good. If you can use a clear dish or cup (ie, Dunkin Donuts cup, right Donna!?), then you can watch the roots grow!

Thanks K! I'll have to look for some clear cups because I definitely want to watch the roots grow lol.

I only plant in these large clear coffee cups in the second year of the life of the seedling. The bulb is at that time about the size of a marble or larger with several good sized leaves and has already developed a root system, I've run out of room and pots and I find these coffee cups will sit in a silverware tray that will fit on the windowsill and the added bonus is you can see the roots!

I meant, if you float the seeds in a clear dish or cup of water, then you can look in from the sides and see the development of the root and bulblet. Floating seeds in cups that you can't look in from the side you can only look down from the top and it's often very difficult to see the root development. The first thing you will see are leaves and you may miss out on the seed's development of roots.

My mistake.....

I found some clear shallow trays so now my seeds I can see if my seeds develop roots. I have plenty of clear cups so I'll follow your advice about transplanting the seedlings their second year in the cups. I usually use the clear cups for my plumeria seedlings and I really like the advantage of being able to see the roots.

No problem.... Know how you use those Dunkin Donuts cups to grow bulbs in so you can see roots...and they fit in spots pots don't! I always like to check for root growth when floating seeds. You can't do that in an opaque cup...

Hey, that's great. I am happy they are growing for you. Do both of them have the red on the root tip? That does not seem normal, but hopefully will develop normally.

Hi Bill, I think only one has the red tip on the root. When I first saw the the red root, I thought it was odd lol. Hopefully it will develop normally.
