It's the season, Erin... the majority of Hippeastrum bulbs are sold beginning in late fall, extending through Christmas. You'll notice that people begin to find sales on these bulbs after the Holidays.

This season, early spring, is the time for buying and selling other types of bulbs... summer and fall blooming bulbs.

As soon as very early fall rolls around, tulips and daffodils and other spring blooming bulbs become available for sale. Each group of bulbs has its season.

You won't find Hippeasrum bulbs available until next fall, close to the Holidays when they are forced to bloom. You may find a few companies or stores that carry what they call "garden amaryllis", but those stores are mainly in the southern states where the bulbs can be planted directly into garden beds.

If you use Google, I'm sure you could find bulb companies that ship to or from Canada. I'm not certain of any names at the moment, though I know there are a couple of decent companies.

The only one I know of that is reliable is Royal Colors. They still take orders and they can ship as late as in May (last year I ordered in Mach for a May delivery). Some items are sold out but they still offer a good selection. Within Canada, the only source with a very limited selection is Garden Import, but availability is only in the fall as mentioned by Jodi.

Early in the season (September through November), they can be ordered from Royal Colors (Netherlands), and from within Canada: Botanus, Garden Import, Dominion Seed House,Halifax seeds, Veseys, Lindenberg (although they sell them simply as "red", "orange" etc), and Brecks. I doubt any can be found now, and my best experience is with Royal Colors.

I came across this old thread, in case anyone is in the market for summer bulbs, a new company with experienced management has opened, bloomexgardens, they seel many summer bulbs and perennials.
