It is an old reference. It focuses on Sri Lanka (Ceylon). But I suspect that you may have tasted an improved strain of either or both of the first two spp.

Thanks. I had it answered in another forum and found out it's cape gooseberry. Not sure why they call it raspberry.

The Hindi name for the Cape Gooseberry is 'Rasbhari', which means 'full of nectar'.

Most people call it raspberry now.... probably the product of a brand-savvy fruitseller with a handcart somewhere.

BTW it's very rich in Vitamins A and C. Hope this clarifies!
