Wiegela Sprout!!

Got some seeds from a little Weigela from Gardens North this year and winter sowed on April 12th. Today I have sprouts!!!!

It is known as Wiegela Middendorffianna, grows to 1.5 meters (about 4 to 5 feet), and has sulphur yellow flowers with orange markings.

Another good sprout. Happy, happy, joy, joy!!!!!! :O)

tiff - wow! You need to post a photo - and also, did you HOS? one seed - and how long will it take to grow into a sizeable shrub? Enquiring minds want to know.... :0)

    Carrie,

There were 25 seeds and this is the first one to come up. I've been watching it push the soil for a few days - nothing better to do, eh? :O) Seems like there's another ready to pop too.

I don't think it will take too long to grow into a small shrub. My mother started one from a small cutting for me and last year being it's third year it was three feet tall and full of pink blooms. It's the variegated kind. She really has the knack for cuttings!

I also started some Pee Gee Hydrangeas from seed via winter sowing two years ago. One is a foot tall and the others are about 8 inches. Cute little things!

It's going to be raining here the next couple of days so I'll posts pics as soon as I can.

Good for you! I hope you get lots more and that they will all do well for you!
I planted seeds from an azalea called 'spicy lights'on Feb. 29 and they sprouted on April 19. There are several sprouts in there and I hope that at least one grows to maturity. Not sure how long that will be, but am going to be patient! :)

    Oh, goody!

I was looking at the weigela seeds at Gardens North, but decided to pass. I've got one here already that takes up a LOT of space - but it's sooo pretty. Haven't been able to snag any seeds from it, though.

I got an oakleaf hydrangea flower head from a friend a couple of years ago, but nothing came out of the handful of "dust" that I sowed. Still have some more - maybe I should give it another shot?

GG - I truly adore those Azaleas. Around here Rhodies are everywhere, but people are starting to discover Azaleas because one lady planted her's along a ditch and the ORANGE colour in June just says the biggest HELLO I've ever seen!! :O) Ummmm... Mother's Day gift perhaps?? It certainly has potential.

PV (who should give the other Hydrangea seeds a try because she has nothing to lose from doing so),
You grow a Wiegela up there?? Your limits are endless in the skies of New York!

Ooooooh! I had to go to the Gardens North website to check that one out. I had never heard of a Weigela that has yellow blooms. That it gorgeous, and way prettier to me than the traditional pink blooms. Please post a picture when yours starts blooming.
