Winter Sowing Blooms

Okay, so it's not a picture of blooms from this year's winter sowing. Here's a pic of a columbine I grew my first year of WSing. It is now in its third year:

It's nice to have this color when not much else is blooming.

I was going to post more pictures, but Tinypic is giving me trouble. I'm wondering if maybe registration is required now after more than one pic?

I have one Columbine plant that is going to bloom this year, it was from a shade mix that included Forget-me-nots which turned out to be little blue thugs, had to pull every one of them out. Meanwhile my patient wait for the Columbine should be over this month, I hope I like the color. Yours is lovely!

Pretty columbine. I have many 2nd year plants that I am waiting to see bloom this spring, so exciting. I love ws columbine as they are among the first of the blooming perennials for me.

Oh, that's pretty! I sure wish I could get columbine to germinate for me ...

I've got a teeny plant from last year - my friend gave me a small clump of hers; it's been in a 16-oz cup all that time and I totally neglected it, so I figured it was dead. Fooled me - it started growing! Planted it out last weekend, but I'm not sure whether it will flower this year or not.

Meanwhile, I'll just enjoy yours! Looks pretty next to the euonymous (at least, I think that's what it is?) ....

Thanks everyone :) It is exciting anticipating new blooms. The anticipation is even greater for plants we have waited a year to see. I am looking forward to echinacea and blanket flower blooms this year. My blue flax has begun to bloom from last year's WSing, although it's looking kind of sad with all the rain.

Please post pictures of your long awaited blooms. I love seeing what everyone is doing and being inspired with new ideas/plants.

PV, I'm not sure if it's a euonymous, as the last owner planted it. I hope everything works out with your columbine. Everyone has something that's difficult to grow. My kryptonite is chives, lol. They're supposed to be so easy, but not for me. I may just buy some.

Coumbine is much easier with WS, IMO. I started some two years ago inside, and they stayed maybe an inch tall until that fall, when they put on new growth (after I had ignored them all summer, because I thought they were stunted!). They bloomed the next spring.

This year I both ws and started indoors the Tower Pink columbine from Select Seeds (hedging my bets for my first year ws!). The ws ones are much bigger and healthier. It will still take them a year to bloom, but I think they're getting a much better start.
