I understand that you need to dedicate a section of your garden for asparagus since it may take over 2 years to grow before you can harvest. Then, you certainly don't want to move your plants.

Maybe others have more info. I haven't had the space yet. Especially, to wait 2 years. I am so impatient!!

I know what you mean but I just turned 62 the other day and for me, time flys by......3 years till I get a spear? oh well. It'll be here before I know it.

But I have a friend married to a fella who won't buy green bananas. oh well. Don't worry, be happy. :-)

I've the beginnings of a plan for the asparagus bed, thanks for the comments. It all helps.

You will get spears the first year. You are not supposed to harvest them till the third year. The spears will beome ferns if left unharvested. The ferns will feed the roots and promote growth.

Any spears you harvest the first two years will be at the expense of root growth.

You bet. I am planning an asparagus bed for our new place as well. Two years is a long time to wait, but it's worth it.
