renovated kitchen in old home with low ceiling picture

I have beams that are 12" wide by 24" long and about 2 " thick {I think} I would love to use them like in the picture to create a lower ceiling in my cabin since I want a loft area how high are the beams from the floor to the bottom of teh beam? It looks like between 7'-7'6"?
I would think to make the cabin cozy I could get away with 7" high?
Thank-you in advance oh and PS I follow you ...love your designs!

You should be able to get away with that based on international residential code, where the ceiling limit is 7'. However, check with your local building department to confirm.
