I had some azaleas whose leaves turned that red color in the Fall. Since it is normal for Exburies to have a nice fall color, I was wondering if yours did the same thing last year?

In your more recent photo, your surrounding plant looks more like Bishops Weed, less like lamium. Azaleas have a fine, fibrous, shallow root system - the dense ground cover may be interfering with your plants ability to take up both water and nutrients. Yellow, smaller leaves usually indicate drought. If the ph of the soil had been raised by a foundation leaching lime, your plant would have exhibited dark green leaf veins in contrast to yellowing leaf tissue.

Thank you, morz8. Yes it IS Bishop's Weed and I have begun trying to kill it. I had heard two contrasting versions of Azaleas and ground covers (even asked a nurseryman - "yes, it's OK"!) I'm going to try painting the "weed" with Round Up (or go to Fort Lewis and ask to borrow a bomb!!).
