i think the opinion was that they are not hardy to zone 5. you can see a previous discussion here

I don't think its hardier than zone 7b, but they are beautiful flowrs.

No... there is no Hippeastrum that is hardy in zone 5!

Breck's is not the only company offering "Garden Amaryllis" and listing them as hardy... it's a shame that these companies have to lie in order to sell plant material.

If you do buy them, pot them up and bring them indoors before frost hits... if left outside in the cold, they will turn to mush and die.

I did not get the Breck's Catalogue with those offerings. I don't care if they are not hardy at all. I would just get the package to get the varieties. They are like any other small flowering amaryllis, and this actually extends the blooming season if you just plant them... You can get amaryllis flowers in May.

I would like to get some, myself, but I would plant them in containers like all my other bulbs. The photo in the catalog shows very nice flower colors, and I believe they are listed as being Sonatinis!

Breck's and VanBorgondian both have the garden amaryllis available.

Brecks Hardy Amaryllis scam. After watching these listed ea year since 2008 I finally ordered some. On the listing for the bulbs it lists them as hardy zones 3-9 (lift in fall zones 3-4) . When you receive your bulbs tho. You get a Hardy Amaryllis Special Information leaflet. " These bulbs are hardy only to 23 deg F" and " In areas colder than 23 deg F lift in the fall" Hardy Amaryllis they are not. It's a scam

I am in zone 7 and even I fear keeping my Amaryllis in the ground. The Lowe's in my area sells "Garden Amaryllis" but even those are not hardy :(

That is why I grow lilies outdoors and keep my Amaryllis inside. Sorry :(

I will not be an apologist for the modern day Breck's …. but i remember buying from their catalogue 30 years ago and more. Used to be one of those catalogues to come in the cold of winter to make you drool in anticipation of spring. I never had a problem with their stuff, although it never seemed to last more than a couple years. In many ways, the BBSs do this too. Selling stuff that is not zone tolerant. Caveat emptor, as always.
