in your climate Ice Cream would probably have to be overwintered or at least buried in a pile of leaves and mulch. Black Thai, Basjoo, muesella lasiocarpa, should do well, Helens Hybrid and Orinoco with some slight overwintering should do well also

I have Ice Cream,Black Thia, and I believe Basjoo potted and being wintered in my basement under growlights.These were pups dug up begining of fall and doing well so far. I have the same outside,fenced,mulched,and covered with plastic so if winter is good to me,I'll have a couple of new trees w/o having to use them for replacements....Thanks for the feedback!

From what I've read, most bananas should grow well in shade or part shade.

Shade seems fine.
I have a dwarf cavendish that I'm overwintering inside.
I had it in a sunny southfacing window & it thrived there, but about a month ago moved it to the north side of the house by the windows due to construction.

It is happy as plum (well, banana), & has actually grown more since it's been moved than before. New & old leaves have good color & strong. Even started sprouting more pups. I think it's staying there until spring.
