overwintering bananas

I am overwintering 4 banana plants (in pots) in my basement set up with fluorescent lights. This is my first winter to do so. The bananas are growing somewhat slowly which is expected. However the main stem is turning brown and where the leaves have been cut from is shriveling up. My question, when I set these back outside in the springtime will they recover and look as good and green as they did last summer or is something happening that I don't know about? Otherwise the bananas look pretty good. I should also mention that I mist the leaves several times a week and keep a fan on in the room. What do you think?
