I can't imagine why you couldn't plant heirlooms the next year. Does anyone understand this statement?

I *think* what he means is that once your plants have been pollinated by GMO plants, you can no longer save and use those seeds without them having GMO traits. I think he said that only because he uses the seeds from his plants and doesn't purchase new seed every year.

That's true, PC; once you have GMO contamination, your seeds are no longer organic or heirloom. The first part of this article is about pesticide contamination, but further down is a discussion of GMO damage to organic farm/ers. Here in the city, it's doubtful we have to worry much about GMO 'drift' from fields, but GMO seeds have the same effect. But drift from pesticides and herbicides in the city? You bet.

My son and I were in the neighborhood today so we stopped by. It was after closing but we took a quick peek around, what a great place! They will start opening on Fridays also for a while, I was told, because they have so much produce. I think we will go during regular hours next week. Thanks for the link.
