I haven't grown it, but it's on my list, too, for winter greens. I tried a few Asian greens this spring, but they just bolted in the March heat. Not gonna do that again; I'll just plant in winter.

Huh - I know of Perilla only as an ornamental plant, usually grown in baskets like a coleus. Which kinds do you eat??

There are a couple of slightly different types, the Japanese Shiso and the Korean one. This plant is in the mint family. It might be fun to try but I don't know when to plant it. Maybe it should be planted in the spring.

I did grow shiso one year in a cobbled-together 'greenhouse' in winter. I thought it tasted much like mustard, pungent and spicy. Btw, if you want to be dazzled with plants you've never heard of, do get a catalogue from Kitazawa; it's fabulous!
