Radishes question, please

I was able to harvest only a handful of radishes.

The rest didn't grow bulbous or into tuber..whatever you call it. They just grew long roots and bolted already.

What did I do wrong? Did I plant them too late?

And boy those that are edible, are they spicy hot!

I have always grown radishes in the early spring, usually the first thing I harvest. I think the heat got to yours. I remember a few years ago that ours bolted and what we were able to pick were very hot. I would try again later in the season for an autumn harvest.

Carol is right. Plant plant radishes very early, as soon as you can work the soil, or in early fall. When the temps are warm, radishes got hotter and bolt. Enjoy them in April and May, September, and October,

What they said. Had the same thing happen here in NH this year. My purple-top turnips never made it to bulbous, and simply just bolted.
